China - CEEC 16+1 Logistics Secretariat meets in Chengdu
From November 27-30, 2018, the Ministry of Transport of Latvia together with Latvian transport enterprises participated in the Chengdu International Transport and Smart Logistics Exposition in China.
The exposition opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Sun Dongfan, the Chairman of China North Star Events, Mr. Zhou Wei, the Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Transport of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Mrs. Huo Yuzhen, the Special Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China for China-CEEC Cooperation, and other senior officials from the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government and Chengdu Port and Logistics Office.
This year, pursuant to the guidelines adopted at the 7th China-CEEC Summit in Sofia, Bulgaria, Chengdu was selected as the venue for the 2nd Focal Point Meeting of the China-CEEC 16+1 Logistics Secretariat.
With this occasion, the China-CEEC 16+1 delegation had the honor to be received in Chengdu by the Vice-Mayor Mrs. Liu Xiaoliu of the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government. Madame Liu expressed sincere interest for Chengdu to deepen communication and promote comprehensive cooperation development with China-CEEC 16+1 counterparts.
At the 2nd Focal Point meeting of the China-CEEC 16+1 Logistics Secretariat, the participants of the Ministries, Embassies and enterprises from Albania, Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Chezch Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, and Slovenia provided an update with the progress made in cooperation with China. During the meeting, participants recognized that significant and practical achievements have been made in China-CEEC transport and logistics cooperation, since the 1st Focal Point meeting was held in Riga on September 14, 2017.
During the three-day event, the China-CEEC 16+1 Logistics Secretariat cooperation promotion seminar was organized. Mr. Andris Maldups, the coordinator of the China-CEEC 16+1 Logistics Secretariat, delivered a presentation and encouraged Chengdu and Chinese enterprises to develop railway, port and aviation cooperation with Latvia.
Chengdu is the capital city of Sichuan province and the largest metropolis of Western China. It is the main junction for China - Europe container trains, accounting for almost half of all the container train volumes. During the inspection of the Chengdu International Railway Port Area of China (Sichuan) Pilot Free Trade Zone, which is Asia’s largest inland port, Latvian delegation reconfirmed intention, interest, and readiness to participate in China - European Union multimodal transport routes and service solution development via Latvia.
The China-CEEC 16+1 2nd Focal Point Meeting of the Logistics Secretariat in Chengdu was organized with the support of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia, China North Star Events, Chengdu Municipal People’s Government and the Chengdu Port and Logistics Office. Enterprise representatives from Latvian Railways, LDZ Logistics and Ventspils Freeport Authority were supported at the exhibition by Mr. Andris Maldups, the Director of the Transit Policy department, and Mr. Helmuts Kols, the Counsellor of the Ministry of Transport at the Embassy of Latvia in Beijing.
